I get by with a little help from my friends....

It’s been a week or so since I last made a post.  The reason for the absence?  I’m cherry picking!

A painful lesson - I'm learning

Posted on July 18, 2011 by katehobbs

I have been on a learning journey about myself recently to understand why I might react a certain way when put under pressure; what are my irritable areas; what gives me most satisfaction…… etc.

I have found that I tend to mother people, to look out for them, to see things they are doing could cause hurt or pain and try to prevent that from happening – although I am not responsible for anyone else but myself and my actions.  I tend to mother Steve, my husband, from time to time.  Not a good idea.

You are the only person responsible for your actions and reactions.

Time – it’s in your hands – Don’t miss out on the most important things.

I suspect you will have heard of the saying “To everything there is a season”, or another way of putting it could be “There is an opportune time to do things.”

Following on from an earlier post “Addicted to Work”, I know that there is a time to work, and a time to rest, but I did infer in the post that some people work too much, and for the wrong reasons.

The challenge for every one of us is to make sure that we give time to work, rest, play; be with family and friends; to encourage others, or correct as necessary.  Add to this list as you see fit.

Take the first step in this 'attitude' business.

My attitude and choices make my day, and other people’s day.

“It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”
